How did you hear about The J Fitness?
Presently I’m the Rehabilitation Director for Inpatient, Short Term Rehab and Outpatient Therapy services here at Jewish Senior Services. I have worked here for over 30 years and was involved in the new building design. Working here makes it very convenient to coming regularly. I try to promote The J as well by bringing my students and volunteers down for a tour.
Has exercise always been a part of your life?
For the most part, yes. I was a Physical Education major in undergrad and received my master’s in occupational therapy. Prior to having children, I was an aerobics instructor and use to work out regularly at the Fairfield Racquetball Club (yes, I’m dating myself). Didn’t really have time for a gym when the kids were growing up as they were heavily involved in sports; but once they graduated, I was able to return to going to the gym regularly. Also, for at least the last 13 years I regularly take my dog for a walk at night.
Which are your favorite classes at The J Fitness?
I love all the late afternoon classes with Jaren, Ernest and Erik. They are all different both in personalities and the type of classes; love how they keep changing it up.
How many times a week do you exercise at The J Fitness?
I try to go at least 5 times a week. If you really want to make a change in strength and endurance you need to go at least 5 times a week and challenge yourself. We have a lot of short-term patients that we see 5-7 times a week for both OT and PT and we get them home within 2-3 weeks so regular exercise does make a difference; even in 90 year olds
Where are from and where are you living now?
I grew up in Fairfield went to Andrew Warde. I went away for school in Rhode Island and Virginia but came back to Fairfield to raise a family. I love being on the shoreline and being able to go to the beach. I’m an avid Penguins and Steelers fan and road trip it out to Pittsburgh at least once a year to catch a game.
What inspires you?
My patients have always inspired me. To have individuals admitted for rehab pretty debilitated and go through intense therapy with the therapists at JSS and be able to walk out and return home is always satisfying.
What is your favorite part of The J Fitness?
